Lab upgrade

The lab of Cmc @ The Science Park of Tartu

Yes. This place is slowly getting messy as any lab should be. My little love is growing up.

I have to admit, that I’ve been busy as a bee. I already made small post about my wheel design but that is just for relaxing. The main project that I am working on at the moment is the Robotex 2011 line following robot.

Since building a basic line follower is something that anyone can achieve I wanted to create something impressive. This “impressive” thing is not just something that pass trough the course but something that would be extremely fun to watch. During my research about line followers I could not find any robot that would have had faster average speed than 1.3m/s.

So. What do I want to achieve? Higher speed than 1.3m/s, obviously! Also the line following track on the Robotex 2011  specifications seems to support high speeds.

Competition rules

  1. Maximum measures of the robot are 25 x 25 x 25 cm and the maximum weight is 1 kg.
  2. Robot must cover the line all of the time, otherwise the trial is cancelled.
  3. On the cross-sections robot must follow the straight path.
  4. Robot must not damage the field and not endanger the spectators.
  5.  Using greater voltages than 24V is forbidden.
  6. Robot must have start and stop button(s).

The rules of the Robotex 2011 line following contest.

Anyone who is familliar with robotex competition might ask “Cmc… for gods sake. Why do you want to take part in beginners competition?”. This will be addressed in some later post made for ranting. Short answer for this would be “Because this is challenge and fun!” I am not going there to “PWN TEH N00BZ” I just want to have good time building this.
